A few days ago, GZDoom has been updated to GZDoom 4.11.0. Among a swath of changes, one notable change which has sparked some confusion is the removal of many sector light modes in the user preferences options. Some users were disappointed with this new change, as it interrupts some of their maps in progress that were designed with these specific lighting models in mind. The reason for this change was left in a comment in the update thread, in that some of these modes were removed since they existed for backwards compatibility and are, decidedly, no longer relevant. And that the MAPINFO parameter for a mapper to force a particular lighting mode is not allowed anymore, so that end users can adjust for better performance.
Last week John Romero logged on to twitch.tv to stream himself playing the popular MyHouse.wad by Veddge for the first time. This gameplay stream is the first time he has streamed on twitch since promoting Sigil. Many have observed that he was committing the ultimate GZDoom noob sin of leaving texture filtering turned on, which is on by default. This causes the textures to appear blurred/smudged, in comparison to doom's iconic crispy square pixels.
John Romero announced that he and John Carmack will be streaming live together on Dec 10th 2023 through Romero's twitch channel. They will be having an open chat to ask and answer questions about Doom.
Wrapping up its third phase this Halloween, the new megawad Ad Mortem is finally released.
